Bulk Importing Insights into Dovetail: Is It Possible?

Is there a way to bulk import insights? I seem to only be able to bulk import 'Data'. The scenario is that I'm speaking to someone who hasn't used Dovetail and they're exploring if it would be useful for their project. They have already done quite a few rounds of testing and have a massive list of findings. So the mapping would be that the research sessions are 'Data' and their findings are 'insights'. But they have already created a spreadsheet with their findings. They wouldn't want to manually add them one by one as insights. Is this possible?

Hey Faidon Loumakis You can bulk import insights directly into your project. In the ‘Insights’ view, click the ‘+’ button in the top right corner, next click ‘Import video, audio, or docs’ and select as many files as you need. Hope this helps!

Hey Margaret, I may be doing something wrong but I was trying to import a list of insights from a spreadsheet. So each row in a specific column is a different insight. When I do this from the note view it imports it as a table and it lets me select which columns to bulk import. But they are imported as notes. When I go to the insights view it won't let me select columns, as if it doesn't recognize it as a spreadsheet, and instead it imports the whole file as a single insight. I would like to import multiple insights from a single spreadsheet

This might be a common scenario for people who are not using a research depository yet but want to move to Dovetail. They do probably have a list of insights somewhere that would be beneficial to import in one click. The people I was speaking with who are considering Dovetail have around 200 findings/insights and would not want to have to import them one by one. They work for an agency, timelines are tight, and if they cannot easily import them I doubt they will dedicate that much time to try Dovetail for this project 🙂

But we’re planning to look into insights bulk import next year, so perfect timing 🙂 I’d love to hear more about how you're documenting insights in spreadsheets. Hi Margaret, I don't use spreadsheet any more. This is for a former colleague I was telling Dovetail about and they were considering it. My understanding is that they would want to map a column to the insight title, and other columns would be insight fields. For example an insight could have the following columns:
Insight (description of finding - insight title)
Severity (Low, Medium, High) - (insight field)
Research round (round 1, round 2, round 3) - (insight field)
Recommendation (proposed solution) - This could be in the insight description, or another insight they could link to, I don't think it could work this being a field, but interesting use case
Status (unadressed, in development, completed) - (insight field)
Person assigned to this - (this could be an insight field)
