Hi all! I am trying to get the magic tagging suggestions to work well. I am really struggling to get it to apply consistently. Here is an example. I have a tag "otc" that applies sometimes but not always. I really can't discern a rhyme or reason. Here is the description of my tag, an example of when it applied through the suggested/automated tagging, and two examples of when it didn't apply. What the heck is going on here? Any suggestions for improving my tag so it functions better?
How many tags do you have in your project? In one of the training sessions at the Dovetail conference this year they described how users with larger tag boards tend to have worse results from suggested tags compared to those with a smaller # of defined tags. I also wonder if "training it" by highlighting a few good examples of what does fit under this tag first, then applying suggestions would work. It's unclear if existing highlights under a tag are used to help predict other potential highlights. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I know these two things aren't full solutions, I'd like to see improvements to this feature as well, but figured I'd throw them out there!
Hayley E. thank you for reaching out. let me see if i can find any best practices for you.
Here's a help centre article for your consideration: https://dovetail.com/academy/create-and-maintain-tag-boards/#making-the-most-of-tags-with-descriptions.
A couple of things:
Great job getting started with the Tag descriptions! (read here for more guidance on how to best craft these if needed)
The tags + their descriptions need to exist in the project BEFORE you ask for suggested highlights in order for them to be applied
As Ashley mentioned - a smaller # of defined tags work best with suggested highlights as the system can be more targeted and focused (vs trying to handle an extensive tag board)
You can actually configure which Tag groups within a tag board you want to be utilized by Suggested highlights at the project level. (see screenshots below)
I recommend only having a few key tag groups turned on to have the most accurate suggested tags
