Clarification on Dovetail User Notifications for SSO Groups

·
·

I’m looking for clarification on how Dovetail handles user notifications when adding people to an SSO group. As I understand it, users aren’t actually created in Dovetail until they log in for the first time with their SSO credentials—meaning they also wouldn’t receive any notification emails from Dovetail until after the login for the first time. Can you confirm if this is correct? The reason I’m asking is that we’d like to preemptively add all colleagues from a specific business area to our Dovetail SSO group, but we don’t want to spam colleagues with an email announcing their access. Ideally, they would only realize they have access when they encounter a shared Dovetail link in Jira or Confluence and log in for the first time. Would appreciate any insights—thanks

If you’re just using SSO then that’s correct, the users aren’t actually invited to the workspace yet, but only approved to access the app through your IdP. You’d need to have automatic account creation enabled which will allow them to join the workspace automatically when clicking through a Dovetail link. If you’re using SCIM on the other hand, the users are created and provisioned even if they haven’t logged in, but I believe SCIM provisioned users don’t have notifications on by default. That would be good to test with one user if you are using SCIM just to be certain though 😊
