Hi Dovetail team, I’m currently working with several interviews and insights, and I would like to export a selection of quotes to Word or a simple text editor – ideally including the participant’s name or identifier for each quote. At the moment, I can only seem to copy one quote at a time, and if I use “Copy to clipboard,” it doesn’t include any information about the participant. I’m trying to avoid copying quotes one by one and then manually adding the participant name afterwards. My question is: 👉 How can I export multiple quotes at once – preferably grouped or tagged with the participant name – so I can paste or export them into Word or Notebook for further analysis and reporting? I’d really appreciate your help in finding the most efficient way to do this. Thanks in advance! Best regards, Kathrine
Hi Kathrine N., you can do this pretty easily by exporting your highlights as a CSV file from a table layout. I've recorded a short video showing you how to do this, and the attached CSV file is an example of what you'll get.
Hi Benjamin H. Thanks so much for your quick reply and the video – very helpful! I now understand how to copy highlights, but I still have two questions I hope you can clarify: ⸻
Is it possible to copy/export content directly from a completed Insight (not from individual highlights)?
I often summarize or group quotes into an Insight, and it would be very helpful to copy the full content (including associated quotes) to Word or another editor. ⸻
Can I include the participant name/reference when copying or exporting highlights?
I’ve anonymized all participant names in the system already (e.g. “Kitchen 1”, “Kitchen 2”), so it would be really useful if the exported text automatically included this reference. Right now I have to add it manually, which takes a lot of time when exporting several quotes. Is there a way to include the participant name in the export or when copying multiple highlights? Thanks again – really appreciate your support, especially during the weekend! Best regards, Kathrine
Hey Kathrine N., if you're looking to export directly from the insight, you can try downloading it as a pdf file. This can then be uploaded to any of the apps you mentioned To do this, open the insight menu, select Open in full page, and then choose Print. This will allow you to capture all the content from the insight. Unfortunately, participant names won’t be automatically pulled from the source transcript. Hope this helps!
