I’m trying to link two different contacts to same transcript: one the participant, the other the interviewer. Sometimes I can alternate, sometimes I can’t. It only allows me to link one person. Bug or a feature? How do I get it to consistently let me link two people?
Hi Burcu, Thanks for reaching out. 👋 Happy to help out! Can you send screenshots or a screen recording of the behavior you are running into so we can gain a better understanding of your issue.
Don’t have a screen shot. In some of the transcripts I start tagging the paragraphs “Interviewer” than I start tagging the other with participant name. Some times when I link it to the other participant name, it labels the entire paragraph with that name. If is go back and retag one as interviewer, it relabels everything as interviewer. It won’t let me alternate speakers. This only happens randomly. I have to toggle back and forth many times linking unlinking before I can do what I want
I was swindering if there was a setting in missing
To change a participant name, you just need to type in their name in the "Search and assign" text box and either assign them to an existing contact or create a new contact. I'll share a recording of how you can create a new contact for a participant below:
You will need to assign all participants a name/contact before you can reassign specific speaker sections if they are attributed to the wrong speaker. We have a detailed Loom video here: https://www.loom.com/share/dfe852e87efd4a1aa2ed5d9ced1d8b55
I did exactly that, sometimes it reassigns the entire transcript to the same person
It won’t let me alternate
I watched the video and this is exactly how I figured it would work. This tells me that my issue is a bug.
You will need to assign all participants a name/contact before you can reassign specific speaker sections if they are attributed to the wrong speaker. If you have an example of where this is happening: 1. Feel free to share the browser URL 2. Provide a screen recording of the behavior 3. Grant our team access to your workspace by completing the steps below:
I enter new participant in contacts then in the transcript I search and add the person. Isn’t that what you’re saying I should do?
This happened to me twice already in a set of 6 interviews.
I have to link/unlink several times. Then all of a sudden it starts working
Right now things are fixed so there is nothing for you to look at
You only need to assign the speaker within the transcript, and the "Contact" in the side menu will be updated. If you want to send over a recording of the process you are taking, this will be much easier to troubleshoot 😊
Ok, feel free to send a recording if you happen to experience the issue again. As I mentioned, this Loom here provides a great example of how to add participants within a transcript: https://www.loom.com/share/dfe852e87efd4a1aa2ed5d9ced1d8b55
Which is why I’m suspecting this is a bug;) I hav e no recording. This one was my last transcript so I doubt I would have a recording for a while now.
Not sure if my issue came out clear for you 1) I can add participants in contacts 2) I can add participants in transcripts 3) issue is sometimes dovetail doesn’t allow me to alternate speakers and assigns the same person to the entire or most of the transcript
I was able to assign participants within my own workspace. Example I updated Participant 1 to "Jazmin Taheri" and then Participant 2 as "Cheri":
Now that both participants have been updated, if there was one line that should be the other contact, I just select the correct Contact within the drop-down:
Since I'm unable to replicate your behavior and have received no other reports of this issue, please feel free to provide us with a screen recording if you experience it again. We'll be happy to help. 🙏
Again, all of that I can do. In two instances the system didn’t allow me to do it. I don’t have a recording. I won’t have one till couple of months later
