hi team! got a couple of questions around the MCP and API
are there any plans to offer a hosted version of the MCP server so users can skip all the stdio local setup and get access via claude web?
as we start looking at leveraging channels more, are there plans to make channel data/themes/digests available via API (and thus via MCP)?
similarly, are there any plans to make file content available via API? again, this is related to some desired MCP involved workflows
finally, is there a way to access project readme/overview pages via API?
Hi Justin! I'm Erin, one of the engineering managers at Dovetail and am delighted to tell you that we are actually currently planning work for a hosted MCP, it will be coming in the new year. The first version will likely have the same data that the current API has, however would be keen to hear more about your use-case. Are you able to share more on your intended MCP workflow, specifically around the file content?
amazing news! on access to file content via API/MCP, the use case here is that many of the teams I support are increasingly starting their work in claude (desktop, web, and actually a good bit claude code), so I’m looking for ways to bring dovetail content as close to their workflows as possible. where file content comes in is the growing library of industry reports and prior research, mostly as PDFs, that we’ve added to dovetail. currently, limitations in the api mean that the MCP can report that there is data that seems like it might be relevant, but cannot access the data unless someone added highlights, which is unlikely for something like an industry report. Ideally, dovetail could return a summary of the relevant parts of a file and a link to the file in question. dovetail search does a good job of this today, but ideally I could make it available to people who aren’t thinking to start their work in dovetail or who are using workflows that don’t make sense in dovetail, like drafting a research plan or an opportunity framing document (you might have seen an earlier post about what I'm doing there)
