hi all! i'm looking for resources on uxr career growth for individual contributors at the staff/principal level. i know it differs by company but i'd love to generally read any newsletters and reflections from uxr's who've stayed ic for 10-20-30+ years. i would love to read about what that looks like and what the biggest differences were when they moved beyond "senior". i got the idea after seeing garron engstrom's "super ic" archetypes on linkedin, and was wondering if there's a research-specific version of this thought leadership :)
Such a great question! I stumbled upon this past podcast episode that might help https://www.userinterviews.com/blog/ux-career-growth-options-manager-vs-individual-contributor
Thanks Jeremie G.! Appreciate it 🙂 This seems more geared towards those considering a management path (I'm definitely not!) Looks like there's a gap in online content about IC4, 5, 6 types of research roles and what they entail
You may find the Great Research session by Learners from earlier this month interesting, which was specifically about/by (senior) ICs:
Don’t get us wrong, management is great, but for many of us, that’s not what we’re looking for. We went into research because we love doing it, and nothing excites us more than the most challenging problems out there. At Great Research, you’ll hear from Staff- and Principal-level researchers on how to grow and thrive in these roles, and how to chart your own path towards IC-leadership.
