Hello, when I create a name for a speaker in transcripts, it now seems to be creating another separate ‘contact’ entry. I create a contact for each person, but also just label my portions as “uxr” which has now created several “uxr” lines in the contacts database, along with new lines for participants if i do not take the time to fully link them in the transcript.
I get benefit from linking the actual user, as then you can see all the conversations that user has had over time. it helps me quickly get info about a user before I reach out to them or know to not reach out to them if they've been in a lot of convos with others on the team recently. for my portions, I don't tag myself as a contact but as a participant (where it lets me choose myself from the user list) so I don't get added to the contacts database. I do think that the contact selection interaction could be improved, as it's sometimes a bit buggy
I've had some issues where a dovetail user named themselves and it lagged pulling up their name. They probably just hit enter and generated a new Contact instead.
Hey Dovetail Do you have any update on this? I too want to add internal contacts so I can keep track of who’s who, but I do not want them added to the Contact DB.
I noticed with the recent update now it is adding people to my contact DB too, which I also don't want!
Shwe thanks for your response, basically when I'm naming folks in a transcript, I don't want to assign them to a contact. I just want to give them a name in the transcript so it's easy to see who is speaking and the AI summaries/answers will reference the person by name instead of "participant 1". reason being a lot of these people are my coworkers but they may not have a dovetail account. I don't want them added to the contacts list because they are not a research contact. additionally, the "new participant" button on the dropdown is kinda confusing. I thought it meant I would create a new person's name/new contact if I know they don't exist, but it actually creates another participant, ie changes it from participant 1 -> participant 6 (new participant). there is no way for me to undo this or remove participant 6 from the dropdown list either
it also doesn't let me change participant 6 back to participant 1... I have to assign participant 6 to a contact or user, but participant 6 doesn't exist and was created by accident when I clicked "+ new participant" and expected a different interaction than what happened. overall the new menu to name and assign folks in a transcript makes it harder for me to easily name people in a transcript and has ripple effects through the product that I do not want

I guess I am looking less for support and more providing product feedback about how this feature is not working in the way we'd like to use it. the updates are more restrictive than we'd like them. while there aren't limits or restrictions on the contacts database, I still don't want to add every single person from every single call to it. we want to use the contacts database as a way to easily find research participants and not be filled with extraneous contacts who we don't want on the list. for example, we are in the process of implementation and uploading historical calls. yesterday we uploaded 6,000 historical calls and would like to slowly name the people in the transcript so that they are not all listed as "participant #x". I don't want 10,000+ contacts in our contacts database from all these calls. so maybe you could pass this feedback along to the product team for future consideration? thanks!

Just adding my comment here, to add weight to the original comments and feedback above incase this helps changes to the feature. I too am haing issues with the new transcript/participant naming feature. I accidentally added a participant 3, I cannot change that part back to participant 1. Also not sure how it works when the transcript states it is one participant speaking when it is actually the other... how do we easily switch back to the other participant. I do not want to keep a list of contacts/participants in the database in this way. I keep their contacts alongside PII in a separate place so I can easily manage consent etc. Like others have mentioned I simply want to rename participants and myself in a transcript so i is easier to follow. 🙏
